As broadband services become more widely deployed it becomes critical for the service provider to continually maintain a quality and profitable service while continually adapting services to meet market demands. This become more challenging in an environment where service speeds are continuously increasing and abusive subscribers use disproportionate amounts of bandwidth thus degrading quality for other subscribers and profitability of the services. There are various techniques to manage subscribers in a scalable flexible and fair use fashion. These techniques include deep packet inspection (DPI), dynamic policy control and intelligent authentication coupled with automated service provisioning.
